RCC General Meeting
2/24/2010
NANCY’S SUBURBAN CHEVY
President
Roger Tooker called meeting to order at 6:31
Guests –
One gentleman named Gene, just visiting; he is still shopping for his
Corvette.
Gary West
introduced Jeff Davis and Kevin Lang of the Clackamas County Sheriffs
Office and presented them with all the bears and blankets donated by the
members of RCC. Jeff
extended a big thank you to the club on behalf of Sheriff Craig Roberts
and the Bears and Blankets program. The Bears and Blankets program
within the Sheriffs office allows the officers to pass out items of
comfort to children they encounter during their daily duties.
To illustrate the importance of the program Kevin shared a story
about the huge Husky Dog that Walt and Dee Shively donated last year.
After many weeks of the dog being used around the station as a
sort of “Hot Potato” between officers, ya know showing up in the
passenger seat of someone’s car or riding the elevator til it’s found,
Kevin was called out to a hostage situation in Milwaukee.
Two young boys, ages 7 & 9, were locked in their bathroom after
their mother convinced the man who broke into their home to allow her to
keep them safe in there.
After a long ordeal of negotiations police eventually shot the man and
the family was safe.
Unfortunately the scariest part for the boys was when the “FBI” rushed
through the bathroom door to find them and get them out.
After he explained that they weren’t quite the FBI Kevin, in an
effort to ease their fears, invited the boys down to tour the station
and check out some of the cops’ vehicles.
While they were on their tour they discovered the Husky!
It was a match made in heaven, he was too big to haul around in
the trunk of the patrol car and these two little boys really needed a
big friend to help them feel safe again.
Kevin was very happy to report that the Husky fulfilled his
duties in the Bears and Blankets unit and is now living comfortably in
retirement with two happy little boys!
That’s
what it’s all about right there folks!
